Sustainability & Responsibility
All around the world, awareness about sustainable challenges grows. Students, businesses and governments take action at local, national and international level. Also at EfVet and the organisation of the yearly conference sustainability has a high priority. We have no influence over participants' travel choices; we can only hope that everyone travels as sustainably as possible.
However, we do have influence over sustainability and responsible behavior during the conference. For instance, we use as little paper as possible and, where feasible, students are involved in organizing the conference. This gives them the opportunity to improve their professional skills and competencies in a real-world setting, thus positively contributing to their future.
Leerhotel Het Klooster and restaurant Novice strive to prepare delicious meals using green energy and to minimize the use of animal proteins. The in-house local vegetable and herb garden is used daily to harvest ingredients, supplying dishes with edible flowers, fresh herbs, and delicious organic seasonal vegetables and fruits. For items that still need to be purchased and delivered emission-free, we increasingly rely on Instock: Through Instock Market, you can make more sustainable purchases. It is the hospitality wholesaler for rescued products, thus combating food waste. All waste is separated, and organic waste is used as a nutrient base for new products.
For our toilet visits, we use The Good Roll: 100% tree-friendly and sustainable toilet paper that also donates 50% of net profits to building toilets in Ghana.
We use green electricity and are, of course, trying to save as much energy as possible, such as with lighting. Where possible, we use LED lighting.
For local transportation, bicycles are available so that you can move around in a CO2-neutral way. Where necessary, we travel in groups by bus to minimize CO2 emissions per person.
We’re not there yet, but we are on our way!
